Wayfinding signage for IIT Bhilai Campus
Project Introduction
Sarg design studio was entrusted with designing the master design strategy, nomenclature, signing strategy, visual graphics and establish a campus wide design standards for Wayfinding signage. These standards will be used for all future design phases and will retain a uniform visual look and feel through out the campus.
The Design Solution
IITs are institutions of national importance and are credited for creating futures of millions of students across india who have made a mark globally. The students joining IIT's are groomed to become the refined technocrats and visioneries for the future. IIT plays the role in this transformation. This concept around transformation inspired the sign form which is a transition from a raw structure to a refined element.
The Design Features
The campus is planned in zones and the wayfinding strategy assigned them alphabetical identity and Colour. The sign types responded to the type of movement and visual information created a simple, recognizable and legible messaging graphics. The buildings are named taking inspiration from the scientific achievers from India's history.
Kanvinde Rai Chowdhary and Associates are the master planners and lead architects for the complete campus planning and zoning. They are also the lead architects for the academic blocks of Phase 1. The Phase 1 also included hostels and residential development.
